Caption: The above photograph shows the original store, at 82 State St., with the
father of George Price standing in the doorway with a high hat. This store
was established as Price Seed Store and conducted by the family of the present
owner of the store located on the corner of Beaver and William Streets. This
seed store has flourished with a growing Albany for over 120 years. Today,
it serves in a modern manner, the needs of the market growers and home
gardeners.
Photograph, from the Morris Gerber Collection, taken in the
early 1900s and printed on a more recent calendar.
The print of this photograph was found recently at a camera show in Troy, NY.
The old store front seemed especially appropriate to add to the gardening
section of this home page. On closer inspection, it was discovered that the
ground level doorway between the Auction House and the Agricultural Store
was the entrance to Joseph Munsell's book bindery and printing shop. Munsell
is well known in the Albany area as a publisher of early historical and
genealogical materials so this print is particularly suitable for an image on
this home page.
