Six Generations of HAYDENs in the Sacandaga Valley

Gen. I: Moses(2) HAYDEN (1761-1855)

The Line: William - Daniel - Samuel(1) - Samuel(2) - Moses(1) - *Moses(2) - Solomon Moses - John Carmi - Charles Aaron - Leslie Adelbert - Grace Laureen (HAYDEN) BLANCHARD

Moses(2) was born in Conway, Franklin Co., MA. to Moses(1) and his first wife Eunice HAROON. After his mother's death, his father married(2nd) Tribhena FRENCH and later married(3rd) Martha LELAND, but by then Moses had long since removed from Conway. According to a family story, "the young man and his step-mother did not agree very well and at the age of ten years, left home and thereafter depended on his own resources". He lived in Holyoke, MA for several years and about 1790/2, he traveled west to the town of Day, (then called Concord), Saratoga Co., NY along the beautiful but wild valley of the 'Sacondog'. He purchased a farm, built a house and in a year or two returned to Holyoke to marry Mary(Molly) BOYD at Shelburne, Franklin Co., MA in 1795 and brought her to his new home where they lived together until her death in 1828. Moses married(2nd.) Eunice CAULKINS, spent his remaining years on "the Hayden Farm", and is buried in the cemetery at Day Center, NY.

Moses and Mary had eight children: Mary(Polly), John Boyd, Solomon Moses, Asenath, Parmelia, Perces, Moses, and Susannah M. Solomon Moses HAYDEN would continue this HAYDEN line which stayed close to the fertile river valley in Saratoga and Fulton Counties of New York.
