- Multi-Search Program from FerretSoft WebFerret is a free program you can download and install on your computer. It combines many of the popular web search engines in a single search. Download and install WebFerrett from this site.
With your browser running, open WebFerret and enter your search 'key words'. WebFerret will return all the 'hits' (500 max.!). Highlight the name of a page you would like to view, then select File | Open and return to your browser where the page will be displayed. To look at another page, minimize your browser, highlight another page name on the WebFerret 'hit list' and repeat the process. Have fun!!
Note: If you prefer not to use WebFerret, Tim Doyle has set up a Search Engine Index on his homepage (see above) that provides easy access to several search engine sites.
We'll be expanding this section in the coming weeks.
Family History
For those who have written their Family History and those who are in the
process, it is clear that the memorable part of such a venture does not so
much involve the rather dull dates, the endless charts, or the boring
recitation of "who begat whom" but rather the recounting of the incidents
and episodes that set apart the lives of the principal characters in the
story to make the telling of it come alive. In SURNAMES, we will present facts, flavored with stories and
events beyond birth, marriage, and death, joined together with enough of
the structure (charts) to show the relationships among the characters.
Stretching the Dutch Connections and Other Research Areas
The past few months we have had a productive exchange of information with some
new-found Dutch cousins and have explored some names such as FREER, BUYS,
DAMEN, PARMENTIER, etc. A contact in England has helped to extend the CLAYTON line
another generation, an attempt to confirm the beginnings of the BLANCHARD line in the
Lorraine district of France is underway and new data on the MUNROE and BALL lines of early
MA have been acquired. We are also looking at early (c1776) ALLEN and BAKER lines in RI.
The Internet has played an important role, Home Page contacts have contributed and shared,
and of course, libraries, record repositories, and genealogy societies and their publications
continue to be important sources of new information.
These pages are developing slowly but if you see any names that sound familiar, contact us
by e-mail (or postal mail) so that we can compare notes and share details.
Announcement!
BLANCHARD-L, a Family Genealogy Mail List This List began at RMGate in June 1996 and moved to RootsWeb in May 1997. If you are interested in any of the BLANCHARD family lines, you might want to subscribe to this Mail List.
